As we get on in our lives, sometimes the miles catch up with us!  This is dedicated to life on the road, at sea, or wherever we find ourselves.  Hang in there!  It develops our character!

Did you ever wonder what would possess a man to leave everything and become a mountain man?  That thought hit me when I was watching "Jeremian Johnson" late one night.  Sorry, that's how my brain works!

Story

This song came about from a challenge while playing a gig.  Someone in the audience said, "Hey, why don't you write a new song right now?"  So, I figured we needed a rock beat, a train, racing cars, and the devil.  Good combo, yes?  So, here is the result!  This song has gotten lots of air time!

Story

This was originally written and performed by Steven Stills when he was with the Buffalo Springfield, along with Neil Young and others.  I covered this just because it is a great song and the political climate is right for these types of songs to re-emerge.  So I take no credit for writing or claim any rights to the song.  If it goes on the album, I will get all the appropriate clearances.

Story

This song came about from an open mic night we were hosting at Life's A Beach in Maui.  I started playing this riff on my 12-string and somebody said it sounded like a Cajun kind of song.  So, now it is!  The story is about on old Swamp woman who is a voodoo queen who's name is "Ouija Brown".  Don't mess with her!!

Lyrics

Ouija Brown

Dan Saunders

v1

She lives out where the swamp gas glows

And the gators greet you with a smile

There's things that crawl and things that fly

Dark spirits roam the night

ch

Oh, that Ouija Brown

Black magic voodoo mama take you down

If you see that Ouija Brown

Better run, better hide 'cause boy she gonna take you down

v2

They say that she's a voodoo queen

And you better know she's wicked mean

Cast her spells when the sun goes down

And they call her Ouija Brown

v3 Talk

Okay boys let's take it down a notch

I gotta story to tell

Two good ol' boys went out one night

Way out into the swamp

On a double dog dare they went out there

And disappeared clean outta sight

And on cloudless nights when the moon is full

And the hair stands up on your neck

They say that you can hear their screams

And feel black magic there

So don't go in the swamp tonight

When Ouija Brown's on the prowl

'Cause boy, boy, boy She gonna take you down

ch

outtro

Story

This song stems from a true story that happened to me and my wife Terri on our honeymoon in Mendocino.  We were visiting the Point Arena Lighthouse when I had an overwhelming feeling of Deja Vu and described a cottage and yard that was around the next corner. All without ever having been there.  The song is the story of that experience and tells how we feel about each other and the past that brought us to that place.

I wrote this song as the music for an underwater video that Scott Hareland is putting together after a trip we went on with my boat at B&B Scuba.  We had a great time and saw everything in the video in 2, count 'em 2, dives!  Amazing!!

Just a haunting melody that stays with me.  Plus, Stevie's vocals along with Lindsey's guitar work are simple and classic!  I love the sound of this song!
